About Karlijn Karthaus
My work explores the invisible pressures, struggles, and triumphs that shape our lives. Through my projects, I create narratives about the nuanced dynamics of societal expectations, aging, gender roles, and personal freedom. Portraits play an important role in my work. Besides photography, I employ various media, such as archival material, installations, and moving images, depending on the topic, subject, and audience I intend to reach.
Through my observational and constructed photography, I invite viewers to contemplate their own lives, sense of self, and relationships within their social spheres, aiming to trigger a dialogue about critical social issues.
